The Added Dimension
We are committed to providing a balanced curriculum for post-16 students, however we are also aware that our success lies not only in encouraging academic excellence but also in helping students to develop a wider sense of personal achievement. Students in the Sixth Form can expect to develop their skills, interests and strengths.

A Sense of Responsibility

6th form common roomStudents are encouraged to play an active role in life at Don Valley. To help represent the Sixth Form, a Head Boy and Head Girl and their deputies are elected by students and staff.

Additionally, Sixth Form students elect their own Sixth Form Council which is chaired by the President of the Sixth Form and this makes a significant contribution to the running of the Sixth Form and is directly responsible for managing the Sixth Form common room, social activities and so on.

Sixth Formers have been highly active in promoting 'paired reading' for special educational needs pupils, supporting lower school pupils through a counselling service and being involved in the classroom.

Enhancing Artistic Talents

Audrey - Little Shop of HorrorsThere is a wide range of opportunities for Sixth Form students to contribute to the many musical and dramatic activities which take place at Don Valley.

Students enjoy a wide range of sporting activities, and we have an excellent record of high achievers who represent the school at Doncaster, county and national levels.

Many Sixth Form students enjoy enhancing their skills as part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award Scheme.

Part of the Community

The Sixth Form is very much a part of the local community. Our Sixth Form students make a major contribution to the whole school, through reading clubs, form groups and in class support, as well as the local community.

All Sixth Formers have the opportunity to gain experience in community service, such as placements in playgroups, primary schools, hospitals and residential homes. Students have the opportunity to gain a Sport's Leaders Award, with NVQ validation.

Frequent fund-raising events are organised to help a range of charities.

Social Life

The Sixth Form Council ensures that there are ample opportunities to participate in a wide range of social and recreational activities. A popular event is the end of year Sixth Form Prom.

Close Links with Industry

The Sixth Form has developed close links with local organisations, commerce and industry to ensure students are given sound preparation for the future. Don Valley has a proven track record of excellence in work experience placements for NVQ, GNVQ & VCE students. Many employment opportunities are offered based upon these placements.
