Pond 2003 - click here for the album

As part of ACE week 2003, a pond was designed and built by Y10 and Y9 students.
Y10 Single Science group designed and started the project in the final few weeks of the summer term, marking out and starting the digging! The builders working on the new science room kindly assisted the digging with their mini-digger; and the boys worked really hard clearing all the soil away. A group of 20 Y9 students took over on ACE days, finishing the digging, clearing the remaining soil, lining the pond and then crazy paving the edge to hold the liner in place. All the Y9 students involved made their mark at DVHS by putting a handprint into the border of the pond.
Many new skills were developed over the period of this project, and all those who took part worked extremely hard and should be very proud of what they achieved in a very short space of time.

Summer School 2003 - click here for the album

During the first week of the summer holidays, 30 Y6 and Y8 students took part in a Gifted and Talented Summer School at Don Valley. The theme of the week was “Monsters and Planets”. Activities during the week included a visit to the National Museum of TV, film and Photography at Bradford and designing an imaginary planet and a monster which could inhabit that planet. Students then embarked upon the task of writing and producing a short, animated film about their monster and planet. They built sets, created monsters and other characters, took hundreds of photos and then edited the whole film in time for a presentation to parents on the Friday lunchtime. Every student involved made a huge contribution to their film and the week as a whole was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
