Department information

The department currently has three full-time and one part-time members of staff . Mrs. Charlesworth will also be taching two lessons of Year 9. The school employs both French and German Language Assistants, each for six hours per week.

Staff working in the department are:

Miss R. Crawford - Head of Department Main language French, but also teaches Germanand Spanish.
Mrs. R. Charlesworth .Main Language German but also able to teach French in KS3
Mrs. A. Graves - SEN representative. Main language German, but has ablility to teach French in K.S.3.
Miss M. Moncuit - Literacy representative. Main language French, but also able to teach German in KS3. Teaches Spanish in Year 12

Curriculum Information

Year 7

French will be studied by 7A, C, E.G, J while German will be studied by pupils in 7B, D, F. H. Pupils are allocated to a form by the Head of Year. In cases where there is an extenuating reason why pupils should study one language rather than another (ie. parents are German etc.) we will endavour to comply with the parental request. Classes will be taught in mixed ability form groups.

Pupils in Year 7 study French or German for two 50-minute lessons per week.

Equipe Nouvelle 1 is used in French and Klasse Neu is used in German.

Year 8

There are three sets for each language in the X half and in the Y half. Pupils are taught in set groups according to ability.

Pupils have two 50-minute lessons per week.

Year 9

There are 5 sets for French in the X half and four sets for German in the Y half. Pupils are taught in set groups according to ability.

Pupils have two 50-minute lessons per week.

Year 10 and 11

At the end of Year 9 all pupils have the choice of continuing with French or German or can begin to study Spanish. Pupils follow the Edexcel Linear GCSE in French and German, with examinations at the end of Year 11 and coursework. The Spanish course is OCR Asset Languages at Levels 1 and 2 (equivalent to G-D at GCSE and C-A* respectively). Metro, Logo and Listos are used in Key Stage 4.

Years 12 and 13

French is currently taught in a consortium with Campsmount Technology College and North Doncaster Technical College. Students have six lessons per week. German is currently taught at Don Valley.


Rooms and Resources
There are four teaching rooms which are, for the most part, for the sole use of the Languages Department.

All classrooms have OHPs, screens, cassette recorders and interactive whiteboards

Extra-curricular
There are annual French trips to Paris and Normandy and German trips to the Rhineland or the Black Forest.
