Citizenship
What is it all
about?
All students have one Citizenship lesson a week.
The students Form Teacher delivers this lesson
The aim of this subject is...
“To help pupils to lead confident, healthy and responsible
lives as individuals and members of society. To help them
live healthily and deal with the spiritual, moral and cultural
issues they face as they approach adulthood
To reflect on their experiences and how they are developing
To understand and manage responsibly a wider range of relationships
as they mature
To show respect for the diversity of, and differences between
people
To develop well being and self esteem, encouraging belief in
their ability to succeed
Enabling them to take responsibility for their learning and
future choice of courses and career”

School Student Council
Don Valley recently electred its second Student council. A whole school election took place on Friday 16th October and all students cast their votes using ballot boxes and booths on loan from DMBC. Sixteen members were elected and a new addition is a representative from the 7-11 form. The New Council started work immediately by electing members to key posts.
Having had success last year in getting lockers for students, the Council is keen to get started on new issues, which are important to pupils. They will be looking into and canvassing views on student recreation areas, toilet and the role of local youth services. Representatives will go to the Mansion House to represent Don Valley in a local Yough forum. Members of the Council have also volunteered onto the School's Extended Schools Committe.
