What is Citizenship?
Citizenship became a statutory national curriculum subject in September
2002.
It’s aim is to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding
to become informed, active and responsible members of local, national and global
communities
It’s major strands are:
- Participation and responsible
action
- legal and human rights and
responsibilities
- "the diversity of identities"
in the UK
- central and local government
- the electoral system and voting
- the work of voluntary groups

the media
- the world as a global community
- topical issues

All pupils will receive a written report for Citizenship as part of the
Year 9 and Year 11 reporting process
This is currently not an examined subject
The School Council
35 candidates were nominated and took part in speech writing campaigns
before being elected to the Council:
We now have 3 representatives from each year group who have formed the
School Council and will meet half termly.
The Council will provide an essential link between the student body and
the Teaching staff of the school. They will have some decision-making powers
and an input on a range of issues such as the School Environment and Bullying
The aim of the school council is to raise awareness of the electoral
system, give students an opportunity to participate in a decision making
process and give students a forum to voice opinions on aspects of school life

Year 9 pupils recently took part in a
