Letters sent out to Parents 2007/08
IMPORTANT Holiday Requests II would point out that any requests for holidays during term time where a pupil has less than 90% attendance will not be authorised by the school and, in this respect, I would refer you to the information sheet attached to the end of term letter regarding Fixed Penalty Notices. School Equipment May I respectfully ask parents to pay particular attention to ensuring that your son/daughter has basic school equipment to support their learning i.e. 2 pens (black or blue), a pencil, a ruler ( Plastic only ), school planner and a suitable school bag to carry their books and equipment when they return to school in September. Great North Road As you will already know, I have banned pupils from crossing the Great North Road at lunchtimes because of some very dangerous incidents. Would you please reinforce the fact that only pupils who live in Scawsby may cross the Great North Road at lunchtimes and then only if parents wish them to go home for lunch. I will be writing to you in September asking about your wishes for your child's lunchtime arrangements. Traffic Congestion We are experiencing a few problems with traffic congestion both in the mornings and evenings when pupils are being brought/picked up from the lower school gates. Would parents kindly refrain from actually entering the school gates to either pick up or drop off. This area is narrow and can become potentially dangerous when cars are picking up and reversing whilst pupils are entering/exiting from school en mass. YEAR 8 ‘STUDENT RECEPTIONIST'Year 8 students at Don Valley School & Performing Arts College are given the opportunity to work in the school Reception area to experience one day performing the role of ‘Student Receptionist'. This role includes meeting visitors, taking messages to various students in the school and also working with the Attendance Department collecting and collating the registers. They will also undertake any other duties that are all part of a large and busy secondary school. Students will retain their normal breaktime and lunchtime, and will start and finish at the normal school times. This activity does not involve students in leaving the school site at any time. Students will receive their full attendance mark for the day, but will not attend their normal lessons. Their day's duties will be organised by Mrs J. A. Thompson (Receptionist) and Mrs W. Hepworth (Attendance Assistant). This role is entirely voluntary; there is absolutely no requirement for a student to participate should they not wish to do so. Similarly, you can withdraw your son/daughter from this activity if you do not want your son/daughter to be involved. The benefits of doing this activity gives students the opportunity of working closely with adults in a working environment, gives the students an insight into the workings of a busy office and it also allows them to take on responsibility for carrying out the various duties and roles. This also helps students to develop in confidence and maturity and improves their sense of citizenship. I hope that you will allow your son/daughter to participate in this Student Receptionist role. I would also like to take this opportunity to say that I am looking forward to working along side your son/daughter. J. Thompson (Mrs)
