Doncaster Children & Families Service Directory

The Doncaster Children's Information Service as part of the Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council Early Years Service has recently introduced a new web based Directory of Services for all Children, Young People and Families within the Borough of Doncaster.

The Directory contains links to Organisations both in Doncaster and Nationwide on issues such as Childcare, Counselling and Therapy, Culture and Arts, Domestic Violence, Drugs and Alcohol, Education, Equality, Family Support, Financial Legal Practical, Health, Housing and Homelessness, Special Needs, Women's Services and Young Adults.

Doncaster District North Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT)

South Yorkshire Police has undergone considerable restructure in Doncaster to include the creation of Safer Neighbourhood Teams composed of Community Police Officers, PCSO's, DMBC Wardens and support staff along with Special Constables to focus on dealing medium and long term community issues.

Doncaster District still maintains its responses and enquiry facility but additionally have five dedicated Safer Neighbourhood Teams in the North, South East and West with Urban covering Doncaster Centre.

SNT's deal with medium to long term problems in the community ranging from nuisance youths, motorcycles and antisocial behaviour to community drugs issues and crack house closures with many community responsibility between those extremes. Officers are in daily contact with partners in DMBC and other agencies work as one to tackle issues in the community. SNT's work closely with their Police colleagues who provide emergency response cover along with the enquiry teams who conduct the investigations.

Street Sport, Active Doncaster

Street Sport is a sport and recreation based inclusion project working with young people aged 10-19 years in youth crime hot spots across Doncaster.

Its principles are based on building relationships, building mutual respect and trust through using sport as a hook to engage young people into positive activities. After the initial engagement and the development of relationships and friendships young people are further supported to take the pathway into further training, development and employment opportunities.

North Doncaster Development Trust, Bentley Resource Centre, High Street, Bentley

North Doncaster Development Trust is a community lead registered charity created to promote the economic and social development and regeneration of North Doncaster via the development of a number of local projects. It was established as part of a European Objective 1 Programme which targets the declining coal and steel community.

The Trust area covers four electoral wards of Adwick, Askern Spa, Bentley and Great North Road and works closely with the five community partnership operating in the area.

To date North Doncaster Development Trust has secured match funds to cover costs to December 2007 and aims to achieve sustainability by creation of a property asset base, provision of local services and development of community enterprises that address local market opportunities.

North Doncaster Rural Trust work with the local community on a regular basis on various projects. One of their current projects is the Shakers development in Askern. Through liaison with youth groups and Campsmount Technology College, the creation of a building for young people in the area.

Youth Service, Bentley West End Youth Centre

The Youth Service in Doncaster offers young people (13-19 years) a wide range of opportunities, challenges, experiences, support and information. As well as enhancing their educational opportunities, the service, which is designed to promote equal opportunities amongst all young people, is helping them to develop into adulthood.

Young people can get actively involved through short term or long term projects that bring teams together. Projects can take place almost anywhere and can be cultural, sporting or even environmental - giving young people a chance to become involved in whatever takes their fancy.

The service relies on the voluntary relationship between young people and youth workers to work towards young people developing through participation, effective communication, empowerment and continuous evaluation.

Youth Inclusion Programme (YIP) , Bullcroft Youth Centre, Carcroft

Youth Inclusion Programme aims to give children and young people to take part in some type of physical activity, help them to learn self respect and discipline.

The primary function of the youth inclusion programme is to divert young people from becoming involved or remaining involved in crime. By offering alternative use of leisure and social time, educating regarding consequences and productively supporting young people and families.
