SCIENCE

You have a choice of two options for science in year 10 and 11.

1. Triple Science

On this course you will work towards 3 GCSE’s in each of the science subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. There are 4 exams for each subject making a total of 12. There are also 3 pieces of coursework in total, which consist of a practical investigation and a supervised question paper afterwards.
The triple science course allows you to take science AS levels in year 12 if your grade is high enough.

2. BTEC Applied Science

This is a new course to Don Valley School which started in 2010 and offers you a chance to gain a qualification worth two GCSE’s in science.
There are no examinations with this course and you will work on independent assignments, for example creating posters, scientific investigations, creating mpegs or media files over 2 years to gain your qualification. You will study applied topics about the everyday science around you and there will be scientific trips and visits which are also part of the assessment. This course will allow you to take BTEC Applied science level 3 in year 12.
