• the traditional GCSE – now part of the English Baccalaureate.
• The NVQ ( National Vocational Qualification)

| What is it? • A nationally recognised qualification • A stepping stone to further (Academic) education One of the five subjects which will make up the English Baccalaureate. This is an extra qualification that will be awarded to pupils with grades A*- C in English, Maths, Science, History or Geography and a foreign language such as Spanish |

| What will I be doing? Learn a foreign language • To communicate in personal, social and work situations – in the UK and abroad • To develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills To extend my knowledge in various topic areas: Media, Sport, Travel, World of Work |
What will I be doing? Learn a foreign language • To communicate in work situations – in the UK and abroad • To complete assignments in the 4 skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) To build up a portfolio of evidence |
| How is it assessed? • Listening 20%, Reading 20% – exams • Speaking – two 4-6 minutes tests – 30% Writing – 2 pieces of writing – 100 -250 words – 30% |
How is it assessed? • No final examination • Instead, a portfolio of assessments: – 15 tests using your notes to help you. 4 Listening 4 Reading 4 Speaking 3 Writing |

| Who is it for? Everybody! Especially if: • You enjoy travel and meeting people from different countries. • You might want to work for an international company. • You might want to do AS or A Level. • You can keep your cool in an exam. • You are thinking of going to university. You want to gain the English Baccalaureate qualification. |
Who is it for? Everybody! Especially if • You want to study languages in a practical way for work e.g. in a hotel, tourism related job, business situation. • If you tend to get nervous in exams. • If you have good attendance (over 90%). • If you enjoy using ICT. If you are certain you won’t want to do A- levels in languages. |
