Aspects of Citizenship are included within the curriculum, and in addition one dedicated lesson is allocated each week. The aim is to provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and achieve, it also promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development in accordance with the National Curriculum. Pupils will develop and understanding of how society works including human rights, diversity, democracy, government, media, conflict resolution, global citizenship, sustainable development and the justice system. They will learn about rights and responsibilities through careers and progress file, health education, economic awareness enterprise, school council, participation and responsible action. Skills of debating, critical thinking, reflection, research, enquiry, communication, negotiation and empathy are developed in these lessons.
