Careers Information & Guidance

February 11, 2011 in Careers by Mr Black

Don Valley Performing Arts College has a Careers Library which is available for students to use to research careers information.
The photographs below show students looking through books within the Careers Library and using careers software on the computers to research information on specific careers.
Within the Careers library students can also find out about Sixth form and College courses as well as different Apprenticeships and be supported with applications and CVs.

The Careers library can be accessed Monday-Thursday at breaks and lunchtimes for any students to use the resources and see the Connexions Advisor, Margaret Bird. Margaret is in school (3.5 days per week) to provide Impartial Advice and Guidance on Careers and to support the school with the Careers Education program.

Margaret Bird – Connexions Advisor discussing Post 16 options with Year 11 students.

Students requiring support for choosing their options in Year 9 or after Year 11 are provided with Careers interviews. Students and Parents can also request interviews by contacting the Connexions Advisor through school or at a Parents event.

Work Experience

February 8, 2011 in Careers by Mr Black

As part of the careers education every pupil has the opportunity to undertake a two-week work placement organised by Business Education South Yorkshire. Preparation lessons are delivered, and choices are made by the pupils to suit their needs. Pupils are encouraged to find out about the skills, qualities and qualifications required for their job role. Debriefing lessons assist pupils to link their experiences to planning for the future.
