OCR Nationals Business (Level 2)
OCR Nationals are exam free and provide you with a more engaging and practical approach to learning. The aim of the course is to develop your understanding and knowledge of business functions, environments and operations.
On completion of this course you will gain the equivalence of 2 GCSE’s grades between A* and C. During the two years you will complete 3 units (Unit 1, 4 and 7) of coursework which comprises of a series of tasks which assess both your understanding of business theory and your application to the business world.
The 3 units you will study include;
Unit 1 – Investigating Business
Looks at why and how companies operate in different ways, this unit covers topics such as business aims, the various types of ownership and organisational structure. You will also learn about the importance of location and the influence of stakeholders and study competition, in terms of price, product and customer
services. This year we are investigating Manchester United and a visit to Old Trafford allows pupils to see the various parts of a working business first hand.
Unit 4 – Communication in Business
Here you will gain a good understanding of practical business communication skills – IT and non IT based, both written and verbal. Topics include: how to write memos, emails, reports and advertisements; preparing and giving formal presentations; and the impact of ICT on business communication.
Unit 7 – Promotion in Business
You will develop knowledge and understanding of how businesses use techniques to promote their goods and services. You will learn about the different methods of promotion and apply this to a real life business – the business we study is The Yorkshire Wildlife Park. A visit to the wildlife park is part of the course in Year 10.
